Yarn planning calculator
An illustrative range for low- or medium-density tufting projects; not a fixed yarn recipe. Yarn thickness, pile height, line spacing and trimming losses change consumption substantially.
This planning model starts from a broad 0.5–1.2 kg/m² low-pile working range; it is not an independently validated consumption rate. Make and weigh a test swatch before buying yarn for a large project.
Why yarn estimates vary
Two rugs of the same size may need very different quantities of yarn. A long pile, dense stitch spacing and additional sculpting can consume more yarn than a low-pile design with open spacing. Fiber weight and yarn thickness also vary.
Test a representative swatch with your actual cloth, machine, yarn and pile setting. Weigh the yarn used and scale by surface area for a far more meaningful project estimate.
