Adhesive performance depends on the products, surface, coverage, curing conditions and secondary backing. A rushed application or incompatible materials can cause backing to peel. A failed finish cannot always be repaired reliably.
Read the product instructions before attempting a second coat. Pay attention to ventilation, safe disposal and whether the substrate must be clean and dry.
Check these issues
- Was the adhesive appropriate for the intended rug and secondary backing?
- Was it applied evenly, with the recommended quantity?
- Was it allowed to dry fully in the conditions recommended by the manufacturer?
- Did the backing material have a suitable surface for bonding?
- Was the rug put into use before curing finished?
A documented water-based product can be useful for suitable projects, but its drying instructions must still be respected.
