A needle can damage a cloth when the fabric shifts excessively or when a machine is moved at an unsuitable angle. There may also be a mismatch between the textile weave and the equipment.
First switch the gun off and unplug it. Examine the tear location, cloth tension and needle. Do not keep running through an enlarged hole.
A safe diagnostic order
- Check if the backing is sold specifically for electric-gun tufting.
- Look for loose tension or crooked cloth guide lines.
- Inspect the needle for visible bending or damage without contacting moving parts.
- Verify the gun is applied to the fabric using the motion specified in its manual.
- Practice a short line on spare cloth before restarting your main motif.
If you choose new cloth, verify its construction and intended use rather than buying an unlabelled fabric roll.
